This interactive workshop is designed to give work searchers the ability to identify and present essential competencies beyond those described on their resume. These competencies, when presented properly, will assist the interviewer to understand more clearly the benefits of hiring this individual, increasing the overall possibility of being hired.
Using the analogy of likening a resume to a clock – “The Resume tells the reader what time it is”. Once the applicant arrives for the interview, it is time to tell the employer “how the clock was made.” Through this analogy, workshop participants begin the task of breaking down their skills and training into detailed descriptions of their career history to encourage dialogue, rather than memorizing “canned answers” to typical interview questions.
Participants will learn the strengths and weaknesses of interviewers and be able to not only use techniques to become relaxed in the interview, but to put the interviewer at ease as well.
Participants will learn how to expand their comments to “how did you do it” using results-based answers commonly left out of most interviews. Participants will also gain strengths in:
• Listening in order to answer the question asked.
• Asking questions that demonstrate their interest in working for the company.
• Researching prior to the interview to be informed and up-to-date with the company goals.
• Identifying the seven stages of an interview and how to keep pace with the interviewer at each stage.
Closing the interview is a crucial element that workshop participants will learn, in order to demonstrate confidence. They will learn to close on a positive note, to make call backs, and leave essential information the employer will need to make their hiring decision.
